Born and raised in Salem, Oregon, Shelby carried with him the values of hard work, humility, and determination that defined his upbringing. Those qualities remained evident throughout his life and career, shaping not only the professional he became but also the person he was to family and friends. Wherever he went, Shelby left a lasting impression through his quiet strength, integrity, and steady presence.
Shelby began his professional career on August 10, 2018, when he joined UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 469 as a Steamfitter Apprentice. From the outset, he approached the trade with focus and precision, earning the respect of instructors and peers alike. His commitment to learning and his attention to detail quickly set him apart as someone deeply invested in mastering his craft.
That dedication was formally recognized on November 15, 2023, when Shelby advanced to become a Journeyman Pipe Fitter. Achieving journeyman status was a source of pride for him, reflecting years of effort, discipline, and perseverance. He took great satisfaction in knowing his work contributed to projects built to endure, and he approached every job with professionalism and care.
A graduate of Sprague High School, where he attended from 2011 to 2013, Shelby developed early the work ethic and resilience that would guide him throughout his life. Those who knew him during his school years recall a dependable and grounded young man, traits that only grew stronger with time.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Shelby was deeply devoted to his family and personal relationships. He is survived by his father, Garth Lewelling; his mother, Weird Wendy; and his grandfather, Ron Kline, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Since September 2025, Shelby had been in a meaningful relationship that brought him happiness and companionship, further enriching his life.
